The point is that this is a problem that's been 'solved' in today's time, co-op online multiplayer has been a thing game devs have worked on to figure out for actual decades now. Yeah maybe they aren't incredible in today's world, but whether games from 1998 are good here or not isn't the point. Im specifically talking about PC games of that era, for example old strategy games could be played against the AI way back when, Starcraft 1 is the prime standout example.ĭOOM 2 from 1994 had co op online multiplayer as another example. The game simply just isn't built with that in mind at all. I'm sure the devs could cook up some scrimblo Co-Op mode and it wouldn't be very fun even if they put their heart into it. If the game was never intended to have multiplayer or whatnot. And play Co-Op with any of those now and you realize most of them age like fine milk left out on a picnic bench. Most games of that era didn't have Co-Op either. ![]() But its not impossible, and good planning and development knowledge make it much easier. Yes, its difficult because game development is a specialized field, and its even harder still if it wasn't built with it in mind.
